Although the main purpose of a music video is to promote and sell both the artist and the product, their existence also caters to other area's where the video's are proven to be beneficial, For example, they entertain the audience in a way that gets them to buy into the ideas promoted by the record labels which results in sales in different areas (Merchandise, album sales, downloads.) and publicity for the artist. Video's alongside all these sideline features gives you something to identify the artist with because it gives them the perfect opportunity to create their brand identity which contributes to the youtube statistics and the millions of twitter followers.
